I was selected to be a part of the National FFA Collegiate Staff for National FFA Convention this past year. The National FFA Convention consists of FFA chapters throughout the United States coming together to share the accomplishments that each person/chapter has received at a national level. Our duties for this event were to help promote the Collegiate Programs that the National FFA offers. Some of the programs that they offer are the New Century Farmer Program, the FFA Ambassador Program, and the I-CAL Program. The cool thing is, you didn’t have to be a member of an FFA chapter in high school to participate in these programs! I got the opportunity last summer to participate in the New Century Farmer program which helps excel young farmers who are looking to go into production agriculture after high school/college. I will also be participating in another program that the National FFA puts on. The I-CAL Program is where 12 participants are selected throughout the United States and they are given the opportunity to travel to a country and learn about global agriculture and how that particular country plays an important role in American agriculture. This year’s trip will be from May 16th-29th and we will be going to Brazil.
